Callin’ Dr. Martin!

Sooo, in light of the drabby weather we’re having I thought a post on the revived IT boot, Dr. Martens would be fitting. We all know the famous footwear, and if (by some miracle) you dont not know the name YOU’LL KNOW the shoe when you see it, even if its from waaay back…
It all started with some youth rebelling against normal dress of that time and mimicking the dress sense of the working man with an obsessive attention to detail – style was everything. Up until then, the Dr. Martens boot had been sold mostly as reliable working men’s footwear; And so Dr. Martens was wrenched from the factory floor into youth culture and, for the brand, nothing would ever be the same again.
When Pete Townshend deliberately rocked a pair of black Martens and jumped around on stage with his incendiary band The Who, as the young world watched, it was an unashamed indicator of his affiliation with working class pride. This was in the psychedelic era of flower power; Townshend looked … different and edgey.
And once the genie had been let out of the bottle, the vapours of Dr. Martens’ rebellious spirit could not be contained and the boot seeped into every corner and crevice of youth culture and has been revived time and time again…

…this season with more trendy and some rather interesting prints and colours.

  1. OH MY! I am in love with the pastel Dr Martens! WANT! I had a black pair when I was 18 and used to wear them all the time. I then stupidly gave them to a friend. Wish I had kept them. Oh well! Big love,Jennie xox xoxhttp://vintageowlboutique.blogspot.com
