#SpiritDay

South African entertainment blogger, Mika Stefano coordinated the South African leg of the well-known campaign #SPIRITDAY. Together with over 35 local celebrities, they all took the pledge to wear purple on the 19th October.

#SPIRITDAY is a day when millions of people wear purple to speak out against bullying and to show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth. The idea came from an amazing teenager named Brittany McMillan, who wanted to remember those young people who lost their lives to suicide and to take a stand against bullying.

Celeb photographer Theo Van Der Mewer of Issued Productions was the official photographer who captured some of South Africa’s most celebrated young celebrities… Mariechan of Jamali was the first to take her pledge, followed by Andrew Govender (Mr South Africa), local gay icons Koyo Bala, Amstel, Sade, DJ Olwee and Bujy all added flair to the campaign, hot hip hop artist L-Tido, Generations actor Anga Makubalo, Vuzu and Channel O presenters Lalla, Dineo and SK, just to name a few turned up to show their support for the cause.

Tweet Pic your Purple outfit with the HashTag #PushPurple #SpiritDay #SpiritDaySA and join the online movement and lets all stand together against bullying…

Through Shaded Eyes (TSE) is the brainchild of Tokelo Motsepe. A retail buyer and digital strategist with an addiction to blogging, this blog is a platform for my style, life and love for fashion to be shared. What started as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the world, has now become a place to let out my passion for fashion & writing, in-between time spent at work, traveling, or doing everything else life throws at me… it has become a form of expression and I hope it can inspire and encourage you to also share!
