With a new year comes new plans, new focus areas and with those come new goals, etc. It’s a fresh start, a new chapter in the great story that is our lives and each year most of us make a conscious effort to make this new chapter better than the last by aiming to become better versions of ourselves, and what better way to do that than to put those goals in writing, new years resolutions anyone?
Yes, I know what you’re thinking, “really Tokelo, it’s a bit late for this, no?” …uhmm, no it’s not, better late than never! It took me awhile to get into the groove of this New Year; I was still recovering from a rather busy festive season. After looking back at my New Year’s Resolutions for 2014 (link to last year’s post), I found I didn’t do bad at all and didn’t use the phrase “new year, new me” because I will simply be building on all I did last year. So here are my New Year’s resolutions for 2015:
Now, to those that feel resolutions are a waste of time because nobody sticks to them anyway, I say just because there’s a high failure rate doesn’t mean it cannot be accomplished. Call them what you will, goals need to be set to help guide us in what we do to achieve what it is we want in life.
Two things that helped me achieve my resolutions:
1. Out of Sight, Out of Mind – write your resolutions out, nice and clearly and put them up somewhere you will see them every day. That way they stay fresh in your mind and you don’t just forget about them.
2. Dig Deeper – making a short list of goals you want to achieve is all good and well, but once that is done, jot down how you plan on achieving those goals, work out an action plan and start on it as soon as you can.
Like any other goals in life, or that you may make at any other time of year, you can’t give up on them, the key is to be persistent and not give up. It will take time and you may fall off the wagon along the way, but if you want it bad enough, you’ll just get back up there and try again!
Best of luck to you all and feel free to share yours.
