#MHstyle

Last Thursday was the Men’s Health Menswear Collection at Shimmy Beach Club and they hooked up with Abercrombie & Fitch’s First Instinct to bring us this fabulous night filled with fashionably clad people, yummy food and lots of good energy and chatter. The show featured some of the biggest local and international brands like David Jones & Studio W by Woolworths, Asics, Superdry, Scotch & Soda and River Island to name a few; all showing cool spring/summer trends. “Heading into summer, there’s never been a more exciting time to be in men’s style! You will see plenty of sporty, seventies-style prints on the catwalks. Patterns are also big, but classic colours like navy, green, grey, burgundy will be the king colour for the season” says Azeez Jacobs, Men’s Health Fashion Editor. There was a buzz in the air that had us enjoying the night and saw us staying late, stepping to some hot jams from DJ Sox after the show. Check out http://www.mh.co.za for more information.

Heritage Day

Today is a day that was initially known as Shaka Day, to celebrate the Zulu King, Shaka; who played an important role in uniting many Zulu clans into a cohesive nation. Post 1994, the government decided to rename the holiday to Heritage Day to make it a day when all South Africans can celebrate the diverse cultural heritage that makes up our nation; I am Tswana and we traditionally wear small, brown coloured animal skins, but because it’s not that warm yet here in the Cape, I had to cover up more and rather wore one of my favourite afri-print skirts made in my clan’s traditional cloth, known as Seshoeshoe. I enjoy how the day gives one the opportunity to dig into their culture to find out more about their heritage and, most of all I love how it allows for us to experience and learn from others about their culture. I believe truly embracing this day, gives us the platform to share ourselves and what makes us different proudly and celebrate that. That is …

Making Waves

Spring is in the air and with it comes a new wind of change. It’s been cold for far too long and it’s time to peel off the layers worn daily and reveal a new me, a me that is now revitalized and renewed and longing to soak up the sun, laze on beautiful beaches and enjoy hot summer nights out. I went out to enjoy the day by the beach, not quite in the way that I hoped though; as it wasn’t quite warm enough to be on the beach for me to enjoy the water, but was close enough. I feel the mix of blue hues in my stripes on stripes ensemble had me making my own waves as I went about my day. My accessory overload all from American Swiss, helped add a glisten to my look, which resembled that of the sun reflecting on water; and the little charms on my rings and bracelets adding some spring to my fingertips, with little sparkly butterflies and flowers. The silver accessories also made …

The Wrap Life

So it’s been a couple of weeks now with this hair is I’ve gotten quite used to it, so used to it in fact it’s beginning to irritate me a bit, constantly getting in my face and I wear it up in a high bun on most days. Wearing a plain bun gets a bit boring now and then, so I like to mix it up a bit and bring some colour through to give it a bit of life. Not all my head wraps are big enough to hold these braids (cause they are so chunky), so the range of prints I have to play with is small; hence my wearing this one quite a bit lately, it’s my favourite. This look is pretty simple, I styled a new pair of dark washed jeans (that butt shaping pair from Dunns I shared on insta here, what do you think?), with a vest in this new spicy colour I’m loving and my strappy block heels from Country Road. By the way, a few of you …
