Ghana Fashion & Design Week

One of the two reasons I went to Ghana, was to attend Ghana Fashion & Design Week. The second reasons was simply to experience the place, as travelling within Africa more was one of my New Year Resolutions, but I will share more on that later this week.

The shows were held at the beautiful Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra and I must say I enjoyed what was showcased, with each range standing out with visible African influences coming through, but still being quite trend relevant.

As is with global trends, plunging necklines, mixed textures, fanny packs, metallics, detail on the back, overgrown sleeves, I could go on… these were spotted coming down this runway too and in different and interesting ways; and I love how a lot of young designers were given a platform.

I must say I wasn’t too impressed with the running of the event though, with major delays from the beginning being the biggest downer for me. Shows running late is become somewhat of a norm when it comes to fashion weeks, but not 2hrs late.

Otherwise I enjoyed meeting and mingling with the fashion folk and getting to know how the industry is over there.
