With added social activities, travelling and piles of food, we often find ourselves tired and with little to no energy to get up and get to it in the mornings. My holidays are done and its back to reality for me, so I thought I’d share 4 simple ways I increase my level of energy, which is much needed now that we are all gearing up to tackle the new year.
Clean Start to the Day
Hydration is always essential, so by changing simple habits like what you drink in the morning, you can make a significant increase in your level of energy. Switching to water instead of caffeine can be a good first step. If you find that drinking water alone is too difficult, why don’t you infuse your water with fruits and fresh herbs? This way, not only will you be hydrating, but you will also get some vitamins in. I’m a tea lover and herb infused hot water or rooibos tea (which is caffeine-free) and make for great replacement for the hot cup of something in the morning.
The sun and fresh air are great elements to boost your energy. So why don’t you switch up your gym routine for an outside session? You can run in the park, do yoga in your backyard, or swim at the local public pool. I for one, enjoy a hike with friends now and then and look to doing that more often.
Stress can cause you to be more tired, because your body requires more energy to support stress. By trying to reduce it, you will increase your level of energy. Take a long bath, enjoy a fun night with your friends, or try meditation.
Easier said than done right? Starting by going to sleep at regular times, switching off technologies before going to bed, and limiting caffeine can definitely help. If you like to take naps during the day, think about doing shorter ‘power naps’ that won’t affect your sleep at night.
Well, there you have them. I hope these tips come in handy and are helpful.
If you are still on holiday, I hope you enjoy what’s left of it, otherwise I wish you all the very best for the year ahead.
