Stripes & Culottes #bluemonday

With the many public holidays done and dusted for awhile, well atleast until the end of next month, what better way to get back into the swing of things than to share a look that is office friendly. A new take of a classic shirt with stripes going in different directions and the trending culotte pants in a dark denim, which I think would be great on those days you’re not sure whether you’re in the mood to wear a skirt or pants lol. Shirt from Legit & Culottes from Country Road The tassled, mustard colour suede shoes, which have to be one of my favourite new acquisitions, add a pop of colour to the outfit and though I feel I may were this look with a simpler style shoe to work, this is one way it can be worn. That 70s Show

The last two weeks have seen me spend quite a bit of time in Johannesburg, the city I relocated from three years ago, that is still home to the beautiful people that are near and dear to me. When I’m up there I’m usually so caught up in making sure I spend lots of time with everyone, that sleep and work tend to take a back seat. I managed to set some time aside to shoot a 70s themed trend post and was able to rope my bestie Noni into joining me in putting together some 70s inspired outfits and it was only fitting that she join in front of the camera as well. And we landed up with quite a bit of denim on our hands, so I thought it would only be better fitting for a #bluemonday feature. Our looks were shot by Cedric Nzaka of Everyday People Stories, who is based in, but not restricted to Joburg, and I had been looking to work with him for ages now – take a scroll …

To Infinity & Beyond #bluemonday

Water and scenic views have to be my favourite things and with winter [and our rainy season in Cape Town] looming, I am trying to cram in as much of both of those things as I can. I recently heard about the 52 De Wet Private Hotel in Bantry Bay and instantly fell in love with their infinity swimming pool; and had to make it the backdrop of one of my #bluemonday posts. There really isn’t much to say here, its just a matter of taking in the view and beautiful blue hues. I shared a bit about my #bluemonday series with the guys at Old Khaki, which they featured on their website – check it out here: https://www.oldkhaki.co.za/catalog/product/view/id/198258/ All images by Tegan Smith

A Lil’ Bit | #bluemonday

In the [wise] words of rapper 50 Cent “..All you really need is a lil bit, not a lot baby girl just a lil bit..” lol the rest of the lyrics don’t really matter, but those lyrics, from the 2005 hip hop hit popped in my head when I thought about this #bluemonday look with the little bits of blue that brought it to life.   I liked how the blue tones came through subtly in this look. The blue suede shoes are the highlight for me, a pair I have had for years, that easily adds a nice pop of colour to a plain outfit. And with this particular look, it brought together the different shades of blue in my head scarf, boyfriend jeans and handbag nicely. I spend quite a bit of time on social media and recently launched a page for the blog on Facebook to connect early with my readersandals,  so please do go on to the Through Shaded Eyes FB Page to like it and drop me a comment/message sharing your thoughts …

Denim Blues | #bluemonday

Being a lover of water, I love spending my downtime in view of the ocean and one early Saturday morning I went to find this tidal pool I spotted from the top of Lion’s Head, while on my last hike. The aim was to enjoy a good morning swim, before the place got too busy, but with the combination of good lighting and the realization we had a 50’s pin-up look on our hands, it turned into a mini shoot.   The denim-on-denim trend (some may know it better as jean-to-jean from way back when hehe) is one that has been going strong for a while now and I thoroughly enjoy, finding new ways to mix and match my different denim pieces. Is this a trend you enjoy? How to you like wearing it?   All images by Tegan Smith – See more of her work HERE!
