My Fave MBFWJ17 Photogs

I enjoy attending fashion weeks, the dressing up in you most fashionable digs to meet and mingle with other fashion loving folk, but most importantly to watch the highly anticipated runway shows showcasing the latest offering from local fashion creators. I didn’t make it up to Johannesburg this time around, if I’m honest, the season switch had me a bit dizzy and I didn’t plan properly and was still caught up in a whirlwind of content creating and platform building (more on that soon enough), when I was suddenly inundated with fashion week emails. I felt a bit of FOMO when the timelines on all my social platforms were flooded with fashion folk looking their best at the Mall of Africa, I must say I enjoyed watching the numerous live streams and thought I’d share some street style shots by my favourite photographers that kept me glued to my phone. Jeffrey Rikhotso better known as @jefflovesphotography on instagram, I love the mood of his images, they have a cool and casual, ‘caught-in-the-moment’ feel about them. …

Trevor Stuurman collaborates with Simon & Mary for a bold & dynamic hat collection, which was released earlier this week. Creative South African photographer and stylist, Trevor Stuurman who is known for his famous use of African prints in creating fashion statements has hit another milestone as he teamed up with a Johannesburg-based hat factory, Simon & Mary for a hat collection. Trevor shared through instagram how the magic behind the collection, which he says “was inspired by Ndebele beadwork. The shape of the Ndebele bracelets worn by the Amasokana reminded me so much of the fez silhouette and this also inspired our six colour ways. It felt like a natural fit and new translation of this beautiful culture.” The unisex FEZ hat collection is bold and dynamic, crafted from wool felt is available at The Space stores –

Thebe Magugu | #geology

I first saw Thebe Magugu’s work on the runway of AFI’s Fastrack show about two years ago, his work stood out for me then (read here) and I must say his debut collection didn’t disappoint. Thebe showed at the most recent SS17 SAFW in Joburg with a collection he described as being “inspired by the idea of escaping into the wild. I was just fed up with all the pressures of day to day urban life and imagined a woman having to take to the great outdoors and surviving.” The lookbook for the collection came out this week, titled Geology, with a notable feature on the Vogue Italia website. I love how everything was brought together in these images, the colours, styling and different shades of afro’s worn by the models. What really got me was the memories it brought about, from way back when I was that carefree young woman enjoying the games shown in the various images. How fun and simple life was then. Waking up to spend hours in the sun playing games like …

WAIF | Technicolor Melodrama

A jewellery label with an affinity for utter simplicity. The brand is inspired by nature and I just love the organic, asymmetric approach the designer takes with each piece. I discovered the label not so long ago, when I bumped into its lookbook for its classic collection [shown above] and was wowed when I popped back on the site this week to find the gorgeous new lookbook for the Technicolor Melodrama collection, which launched just last week. I loved the use of raw stones and pop of colour in this collection, while still staying true to the signature simplicity in design and the brushed brass look. Some of my favourites include the cute Sleeping Faces earrings, Mookaite earrings, Caracole earrings, Jade envelope earrings and the dramatic Japanese Lichen earrings. See more here. WAIF is the creative outlet of ad-girl-turned-entrepreneur Gisèle Human – a one woman company that runs on weekends and after hours out of the garage of a house in Woodstock, Cape Town.
